Scout Hall and Mouragia

Faliraki
Mouragia are the sea walls on the north side of the Old Town. They were built in the second half of the 16th century and extend from the Old Fortress to the old port, from Agios Nicholaos Gate to Spilia's Gate. The Gate of Agios Nicholaos was built in 1583-85 and is located at the northern end of Spianada. It was part of the military hospital premises (Ospital delle Milizie) built at the same time. Under the British rule the military hospital was transferred to the Old Fortress and the Venetian building was demolished except for a few auxiliary buildings, located in the area of the present Scout Hall. These buildings were then used as auxiliary buildings of the Palace of Saint George and Saint Michael. In Corfu, scouting was established in 1915. The first club was located on the ground floor of “Rolina” building and also at its large garden. In 1931, the Scout Movement was officially granted the present Scout Hall.
