Municipal and Regional Theatre of Corfu
Georgiou Theotoki St
The Municipal and Regional Theatre of Corfu (DIPETHEK) is one of the most
important cultural institutions in Corfu. It was founded in 1997 and is one of the
newest regional theatres established in Greece. Its purpose is to put on stage
theatrical, musical and dance performances, to promote and disseminate theatre in
Corfu and the wider region, and to provide young artists with the opportunity to
engage in the art of theatre.
The Municipal and Regional Theatre of Corfu is subsidized by the Ministry of Culture
and the Municipality of Corfu, and is directed by a seven-member board. The main
acting group, the children's acting group and the experimental acting group rehearse
and put on shows at the theatre, and classical and contemporary works are being
performed there. Moreover, it stages performances, national and international tours,
musical events, and literary and poetry meetings throughout the year at various
venues throughout the city and the countryside. It also collaborates with other
institutions, such as the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, to
stage opera performances.
