Dionysios Solomos Museum

1, Arseniou St Ꙛ This point of interest includes holographic video
The Dionysios Solomos Museum is located in Mouragia, 2 Theodorou Makri St. It is housed in the building where the national poet settled in 1832 and lived until his death in February 1857. The building belonged to the Italian scholar Flaminio Lolli. During the Second World War it was destroyed by the Italian bombing of 1941. Its restoration was based on the drawings of the Corfiot engineers Georgios Linardos and Renos Paipetis and of the architect Ioannis Kollas. The Museum was founded in 2009 by the Society for Corfiot Studies. The building comprises the ground floor and two floors. The ground floor consists of the offices of the Society for Corfiot Studies and a part of the exhibition dedicated to the work of the poet. The first floor is the main exhibition area. Oil paintings depicting the poet, his family and other poets of the Ionian School (Heptanese School) are exhibited in the central hall. The office of the poet where he worked from 1832 until his death is the only original exhibit. There is also a valuable library. The second floor serves as a venue for events and hosts the permanent exhibition of the portraitist ‘Ρένα Κρουαζιέ’ entitled "From Solomos to Elytis".
