Church of the Holy Apostles, Peter and Paul
69, Nikiforou Theotoki St
The church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul and Saint Barbara is located on the 1st parodos Panelliniou and Agion Apostolon, near Lemonia Square. It was built in the 17th century and is a private church of the Dimoulitsa family, as noted on an inscribed plaque that has been placed in the middle blind gap of the western side of the church ("CHURCH/OF SAINTS APOSTLES PETER AND PAUL AND SAINT BARBARA/ PRIVATE/OF THE FAMILY / DIMOULITSA"). An icon depicting the saints of the church is located in a square blind gap above the small entrance on Agioi Apostoloi St.
The church is a one-room basilica with a pitched roof without a projecting sanctuary arch. The arched openings have pink Sinian stone frames. The perforated wall type bell tower rises above the northwest corner of the temple. The iconostasis comprises remarkable icons. The icon of the Holy Apostles that has been placed in the diaconicon of the sanctuary was transferred from Parga by the Dimoulitsa family.
