Church of our Lady of the Angels

The Church of our Lady of the Angels is located in the picturesque neighbourhood of Tenedos, on 29 Scholerburg Street in the area of the New Fortress. It is a single-aisled basilica built in 1673. Originally, our Lady of the Angels was a private church, which belonged to the Amorgos family and later to the Rouvas family. The church was renovated in the late 18th century. Crossing the arched, stone-built entrance and entering the churchyard, one can see a simple, rectangular church with a pitched roof. Above the main door there is a semicircular window while the bell tower is adjacent to the church. Tombstones cover some parts of the church’s floor. The church celebrates every year on 8 September, on the feast day of the Nativity of Theotokos.
