Saint Charalambos church

46, Palaiologou st
Saint Charalambos church is located in Paleologou Street, on the western side of the Church of the Holy Fathers. The construction of the church dates back to the beginning of the 18th century and is a single-aisled wooden basilica without a protruding arch of the holy altar on the eastern side. Its facades are simple. The frame with drops surrounding the two long sides is a really interesting feature. The only entrance to the church is on the north. A bell tower of the perforated wall type rises in the southwest corner of the church. The church has also an impressive marble iconostasis. It was used by the refugees of Epirus, especially the refugees from Souli, Kalarriti and Syrraki who had settled on the island after being expelled by the Ottomans. In 1860 the church was purchased by the Epirotic monk Savvas Zamanis, who renovated and bequeathed it after his death to the church of the Virgin Mary Faneromeni of Stereoton (Virgin Mary of the Foreigners) of which it is still a part today.
