Church of Agios Andreas

15, Arseniou St, Mouragia
The church of Agios Andreas is located in Mouragia (Venetian word muragia, cf. Italian. muraglia, which means walls, waterfront). It is a church of Heptanesian architectural style with a semicircular outer angle. In the northeastern corner of the church there is a bell tower with a perforated wall, decorated with reliefs. The church on its north side borders on a three-storey house which used to be the priest's residence. The church is privately owned. In 1733, the brothers Spyridon and Konstantinos Kouvaras together with Barbatis bought the land. The church was built in 1753 while in 1819 it came into the possession of the priest Stamatios Moraitis. Then, it passed into the possession of the Papoulis family whose heirs sold the church to A. Linardos who renovated it in 1920.
